The design shows one of Heidi Bucher’s most renowned works, which was created in 1981 in her grandparents’ ancestral home. “Fliegender Hautraum” (Flying Skinroom) is a typical example of her famous skins, produced using an archaeological conservation technique by covering rooms with liquid latex and textiles before allowing the layers to dry and peeling them off like a skin. “The skinroom represents freeing yourself from the past, from conventions, constraints and patriarchal structures. At the time, this bold statement wasn’t properly understood by Swiss society nor by the art scene,” says her son Mayo Bucher. It was only after Heidi Bucher’s death in 1993 that she gained widespread recognition with international exhibitions in Asia, the USA, Switzerland and at the Venice Biennale.
