The amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative [amfori BSCI, founded in 2003 as the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI)] is a programme by the business-related association amfori to improve social standards in a global value chain. The Brussels-based organization offers economic operators the option of adopting or following a code of conduct and a systematic monitoring and qualification system. This Code is based on international treaties protecting workers’ rights and covers 11 key elements: management practice, safe employment, working time, remuneration, child labour, forced labour (including prison labour and coercive measures), freedom of assembly (including freedom of organization and collective bargaining), discrimination (gender, race, religion), working conditions, health and social facilities, health and safety at work (occupational safety), environmental aspects and special protection for young employees.
