In Switzerland, one person suffers a spinal cord injury every second day. In 1975, Dr. Guido A. Zäch founded the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation to enable those affected to live as independent and autonomous a life as possible. The foundation, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025, is now one of Switzerland’s largest charitable solidarity organizations. Together with its subsidiaries and partner organizations, it operates a globally unique network of services that help and support people with tetraplegia and paraplegia on their journey through life: from the scene of the accident or a diagnosis of illness to medical care and rehabilitation to returning to work and beyond. Other areas of service include solidarity, education, research and innovation.
